Mikaela A. McDermott counsels clients on employment matters, drafts handbooks and employment policies, and conducts workplace audits for Foley & Foley.
Mikaela has substantial experience in labor and employment law in both the private and public sectors. She practiced in the labor and employment law sections at two national law firms in Washington, DC and New York City. There, she advised clients on how to comply with a panoply of federal and state employment laws and represented clients in litigation and administrative proceedings. Mikaela also worked as a commercial litigator for more than five years at a litigation boutique firm in New York City.
Concurrent with her work for Foley & Foley, Mikaela serves as City Solicitor in New Bedford, MA. As the city’s chief legal officer, Mikaela reports directly to the mayor and oversees all of the city’s legal work, including its labor and employment matters. As City Solicitor, Mikaela must anticipate and develop common sense solutions to problems, skills that she brings to bear for Foley & Foley’s clients.
Mikaela also has international experience, having worked for a number of years on human rights and democracy promotion projects in the Middle East, Central Asia, and Africa.
